David L. Miller currently serves as the Founder and Chairman of the National Institute for Renewable Energy (www.thenire.org) which is a non-profit, public-private partnership which provides services to the renewable energy industry and develops energy generation initiatives with a focus on disruptive technology deployment.
Mr. Miller is the Vice Chancellor for Research and Technology Commercialization for the Texas Tech University System. In his current role, David reports to the Chancellor and has primary responsibility for the development of a diverse and growing number of technologies discovered within the University System. This oversight includes intellectual property practices, licensing and a focus on the successful creation of start-up companies to enhance the economies of West Texas, the state of Texas and the nation. Mr. Miller is also responsible for the development of key research sectors which have a strong link and connection to the region to further enhance our economy.
Prior to joining the University System, David served as Vice President of Marketing at Alamosa PCS Holdings, Inc., Sprint's largest telecommunications affiliate. David was part of the initial management team for this start-up entity and over the course of his seven years at Alamosa, David was responsible for the marketing, logistics and compliance functions. At various stages of Alamosa's development, David served as an interim COO as well as a Senior Regional Vice President having P&L responsibility for a third of Alamosa’s markets. Over the course of his tenure with Alamosa, David had oversight for the following functions in addition to those mentioned above: human resources, training, compensation, payroll, corporate sales, organizational development and marketing analysis. David played a key role in the due diligence and the later acquisition and integration of 4 companies that Alamosa acquired. Alamosa was acquired by Sprint-Nextel in 2006 for $4.3b.
Prior to joining Alamosa, David served in a Director role in the non-profit community and as a consultant to non-profit entities and corporations. After earning his Juris Doctor and MBA from Texas Tech University, David continued his education at Harvard Business School and Southern Methodist University. David currently serves as a board member of Texas Multi Core Technologies and the National Institute for Renewable Energy as well as the boards of three local and one international not for profit organizations. |
