Member Highlight

The FSU-Center for Advanced Power Systems is a recognized leader in large-scale electric power systems, using high-fidelity real time digital simulation and hardware/ control in the loop methods, for integrated development, evaluation, test and demonstration of technologies and systems, including real power equipment at up to 5 MW. The facility is supported by dedicated researchers, faculty and full-time engineering and technical staff. In the area of wind energy, CAPS has modeled and simulated voltage stability, reactive power support and fault conditions for wind farms using acquired wind profiles, and has successfully validated wind farm power system models against actual SCADA data and transient high-speed recorder data. These simulations have been used effectively to thoroughly test and de-risk advanced control technologies targeted for wind farm reactive power support, and to reveal important considerations in the use of simulation-assisted analysis of large multi-machine systems.
