Member Highlight

Faculty members at the Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy (LCRE) at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) have extensive experience in designing complex computer models that will simulate both solid components and fluid dynamics associated with wind energy research and development.

Other areas of research expertise at the Lugar Center include experience with control systems and fault diagnosis with applications ranging from Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) to micro-fluidic and energy harvesting.  Examples of areas of expertise at the Lugar Center and IUPUI include fault diagnosis, advanced controls of energy harvesting, and renewable energy systems.

Finally, LCRE faculty also have practical experience in power plants, turbo-machinery, combustion engines and related areas.  One faculty member, Dr. Razi Nalim, previously worked in the turbo-machinery technology branch of NASA Glenn Research Center, where he investigated non-steady flow devices for propulsion and power.  IUPUI faculty regularly offer courses on power engineering and turbo-machinery, including wind energy and all types of turbine power systems. The faculty have strong collaborations with the turbo-machinery industry, and are exploring international collaborations, including a recent visit to the wind research facilities of Denmark Technical University.
