The University of California, Davis has more than 25 years of experience in wind power engineering, with a history of successful collaborations with national research labs, state agencies, and private industry. It is the home of the California Wind Energy Collaborative (CWEC), a partnership of the University of California and the California Energy Commission. Recently, UC Davis has conducted extensive research on advanced wind turbine rotor technologies, including the DOE/Knight & Carver Sweep Twist Adaptive Rotor (STAR) blade (passive load control), the DOE/TPI BSDS flatback blade (novel airfoil and blade design), and a series of computational and wind tunnel studies on active load control with Sandia National Labs. UC Davis has also engaged in a wide variety of other wind energy activities including field testing of utility-scale wind turbines, grid integration and operations, forecasting, and offshore foundations.
